The Hull Butt Station

The Hull Butt Station represents one of the larger weldments/assemblies that Collins & Jewell  has undertaken. Despite its overall foot print, the unit was wholly assembled and fabricated at our facility and is comprised of some 20 tons of steel. This project is an excellent example of the complete design and build process that the average customer sees when working with Collins & Jewell.

The design intent of the unit was to act as staging to aid in the use of fabricating extremely large weldments for a very large manufacturer. It had to be able to straddle these units while simultaneously housing infrastructure to provide the workers with: electricity; water; compressed air; and, air conditioning/treatment.

Due to the size and scope of the project, prototype designs were all handled in three dimensional drafting software so that the design could be modified to match the customer's needs while minimally impacting budget. Once the design review was completed, the model was fabricated in only six weeks. The end product featured a skeleton that could be divided into three main components; the two towers, and the bridge. When fully erected, the unit measures 40’ wide by 30’ tall, by 16’ deep and weighs more than ten tons. The weldment was fully enclosed, sealed with aluminum siding, and has both 480V and 120V power available with full lighting, air handling, and a generic mating tarp to seal the work area to one side.
